Country: South Africa
Tribe: Zulu
Material: Beads and wire
Height: Approx 1.25-1.5 inches
Size: Adjustable cuff for medium to large wrists
Weight: Approx. 2.2 oz

This cuff is handcrafted by a member of the Zulu tribe from South Africa. During the height of Apartheid in 1981, 3000 Zulu were resettled in a remote and mountainous area in the KwaZulu Natal state. Many of the Zulu men worked security and found telephone wire on their shifts. They started to weave them around their nightsticks, and soon the women started to use wire, instead of grass, to create beautiful baskets. Today instead of telephone wire they use annealed steel core wire that looks similar and is lead-free. Today the wire is also used for a variety of arts and crafts, such as the Zulu Cuffs.
