Zulu wire baskets are a perfect example of traditional skills merged with contemporary materials. Legend has it that the use of wire as a weaving material started when Zulu men who worked as security guards found the wire on their shifts and started to transform them to works of art. First they were used to decorate their night sticks, but once the material reached home, women started to be incorporated into traditional weaving. These baskets can be used functionally to hold non-food items, but they are also beautiful additions to home decor.
